Responsibilities:
|
 |
- Provides spiritual care and emotional support to patients and families as part of a comprehensive patient care program.
- Offers Sacraments to members of their specific faith.
- Assists in the development, coordination, and implementation of actions to address the spiritual and human needs of patients, their families, and staff. Is available for counseling staff and focusing on staff needs and will seek to provide emotional and spiritual support to the staff as appropriate.
- Collaborates with patient care staff with referrals of patients who are in crisis situations.
- Seeks to creatively improve the quality of patient care using the resources available.
- Assists in contacting clergy of other faiths as requested by patients.
- Assists in implementing the goals and philosophy of the department.
- Provides coordination and continuing education to Clinical Pastoral Education students serving as unit chaplains in various departments.

Qualifications:
|
 |
- Chaplain certification issued by the Board of Chaplaincy Certification Inc (BCCI) for all lead and educator employees. Non-lead and Non-educator employees need to obtain within 1 year, or Chaplain, Catholic certification issued by the National Association of Catholic Chaplains (NACC) for all lead and educator employees. Non-lead and Non-educator employees need to obtain within 1 year, or Chaplain, Jewish certification issued by the National Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) for all lead and educator employees. Non-lead and Non-educator employees need to obtain within 1 year.
- Master's degree in Theology
- Requires 1 year of experience in chaplaincy or Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) training for a hospital based pastoral care department that includes experiences in cancer care. Knowledge,
- Minimum of four completed units of the Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) granted by the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education.
- A strong background in functional theology and the ability to apply this in a pastoral manner to individuals, their problems, and their needs, complemented by knowledge of guidance and counseling techniques.
