The Department of State is recruiting to fill a Branch Supervisor Trainee for the Battle Creek branch office. The primary responsibilities include serving as a working supervisor in various locations, provide excellent customer service, training staff, handling general physical plant issues, maintenance of office equipment and inventoried supplies, preparing various reports, and processing all transactions carried out in a Secretary of State branch office.
Upon satisfactory completion of one year of training, this position will serve as a Branch Support Supervisor.  Branch Support Supervisors have a “home” office; however, the majority of their time is spent in various offices as needed within the Region. Future promotional opportunities to larger branch offices may require relocation.
Work Schedule: Monday - Saturday, variable hours
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday: 8:30 a.m. - 5:30 p.m.
Wednesday: 8:30 a.m. - 7:30 p.m.
Saturday: 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
 Required Education and Experience:
Education
Completion of two years of college (60 semester or 90 term credits).

Experience
No specific type or amount is required.
 Alternate Education and Experience:
Two years of experience as a Department of State Aide E8 or one year of experience as a Department of State Aide 9 processing work related to branch office operations may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.

OR

Completion of one year of college and one year of experience as a Department of State Aide E8 may be substituted for the education and experience requirements.
 Additional Requirements and Information:
Civil Service Commission Rule 2-7 requires that all newly hired state employees submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test prior to their actual appointment.
Must possess a valid Michigan driver's license and maintain a satisfactory driving record.

Employees appointed to this classification after January 20, 2009 must be United States citizens and pass a thorough background investigation to comply with Public Act 7 of 2008, Public Act 23 of 2008, and the Memorandum of Agreement between the State of Michigan and the Department of Homeland Security.

The candidate selected for this position will be required to submit fingerprints for state and federal criminal background record checks.  Any position offer will be conditional until results of the criminal background record checks indicate eligibility for employment.
