Job Description

The Barrel Thief is a 15-month-old wine & whiskey bar in Fremont serving wine, cocktails & fine spirits, and small plate food.  We have a dynamic environment with classes, workshops, tastings, and many special events.  Our atmosphere is elegant, but casual.  We recently launched an ambitious new wine program, with over 150 wines served by the glass.

We’re seeking an evening server with wine knowledge and, ideally, supervisory experience.

The position is 3 to 5 shifts a week, depending on the candidate, availability, and need.  The primary job is providing excellent table service, and other major duties will include: (1) serving as a wine consultant to guests and other staff, and, depending on candidate qualifications and experience, (2) providing dining room service supervision.

The candidate should be well versed in wine from around the world, and passionate about learning more, and sharing her or his wine knowledge.  We would like to emphasize that this is not strictly a wine steward / sommelier job…table service is the primary role, and this includes wine service, as well as many other aspects of customer service.

The Barrel Thief is a team environment, where everyone pitches in to help with service, cooking, bussing, dishwashing, cleaning, opening, closing, etc.  We hope that you’re interested in contributing to all aspects of a well functioning venue!

Server shifts are late afternoons and evenings, Tuesday through Sunday.  Compensation depends on experience, and will be $11 to $13 per hour, plus a share of pooled tips.
