DESCRIPTION
The American Diabetes Association is the largest voluntary health organization in the United States that deals with diabetes and its complications. The mission of the American Diabetes Association is to prevent and cure diabetes and improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes. The money raised through our various fundraising events supports diabetes research and educational programs aimed at generating awareness of diabetes and its seriousness, and educating children and adults on how to better care for this disease.
POSITION: Special Events Coordinator (Temporary six month / full time position)
Job Description: The Special Events Coordinator will assist event managers and volunteers to plan and produce exciting, high profile community events.
DUTIES: Position will serve as a key liaison for the Associations Signature Fundraising events and programs in Western Washington including Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes, Tour de Cure and EXPO (visit our website www.diabetes.org for event details). Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Provide logistical support for special events and programs * Secure necessary special event permits * Coordinate communications with event vendors, in-kind donors and sponsors * Create invitations and other marketing materials as needed * Assist in generating new leads for incentive items * Assist in mass mailings and potential donor calls * Support volunteers serving on event committees * Aid in participant/volunteer cultivation initiatives * Participate in pre/post and day of event set up * Other general clerical duties required as they apply.

REQUIREMENTS
* Demonstrated logistics skills * Experience planning special events * Attention to detail * Excellent organization skills * Excellent follow through skills * Microsoft applications Word and Excel are mandatory * Publisher and Social Media experience helpful * ability to work occasional nights and weekends * Ability to lift 35 lbs
