| Description | Summary This Commodity and Distillers grain career development position will assist the Feed Merchandiser and Commodity Manager to maintain an inventory strategy that supports the Company’s supply chain. Evaluate market conditions for grain and distillers grain to maintain inventory levels and control cost. Work with leadership to build ongoing relationships with suppliers, producers and customers. This position works under immediate supervision of the Commodity Manager. Movement from an Assistant role to a Management role will require additional relocation.
Essential Functions may include but are not limited to: • Work with management to maximize plant profitability by implementing effective risk management strategies and tools with respect to grain origination, distillers grains, marketing and transportation. • Oversee and manage grain procurement for assigned location. • Ensure grain supply is available to operations personnel at all times. • Familiarity with area grain prices and marketing practices. • Establish and maintain inventory tracking systems that are acceptable to management and any regulatory agencies. • Work with management to review commodity and distillers grain purchase contracts and settlements for completeness and accuracy. Assist Accounting department to resolve problems. • Work with management to build and maintain relationships with local producers and customers. • Work with management to understand the grain grading and weighing functions according to USDA and state specifications. • Develop a full understanding of the Chicago Board of Trade and collaborate with management on price movements and trends, USDA reports and future projections. • Communicate commodity inventory levels and logistics to the Commodity Manager and manage transportation, if necessary. • Work with the Commodity Manager and Feed Merchandiser to coordinate corn purchasing and distillers grain shipments. • Maintain and enforce all safety programs and procedures. • Complete all tasks as assigned by Management. |
| Requirements | Essential Requirements: • A Bachelor’s degree required. Preference will be given to those with a degree in Business Administration, Agriculture, or Agribusiness • Ability to relocate to various locations within the Green Plains footprint • Preference given to those with experience and knowledge in grain/agriculture industry • Familiar with a variety of the field’s concepts practices, and procedures.
