The Mail Clerk primary responsibility is to sort and deliver mail / packages to the entire HLS community. Performs a variety of duties related to the processing and delivery of regular and specialized mail and/or packages, and other duties as needed: • Receives and sorts incoming and outgoing mail, packages in a timely manner. • Delivers and picks up mail and packages, keeps route information up-to-date. • Operates mail processing machines as necessary, researches locations and redirects misaddressed items. • Provides a high level of customer service to faculty, staff, and students, both with walk-in traffic and over the telephone. • Assists with department phone / lunch time coverage. • Follows up on all requests and provides a timely response to faculty, staff, students and vendors. • Must maintain communication via handheld radio. • Keeps work area neat and clean at all times. • Maintains confidentiality. • Should be well organized and able to prioritize work; ability to work independently without close supervision is important. • Operate postage meter, PC and Arrival system. • This position will be required to assist with student “move in” and be available over Labor Day weekend or other peak times. • Daily reporting of mail volumes handled along with maintaining all logs and reporting documentation; attention to detail is important. • Ability to communicate both verbally and written with customers. • Assist with work order tasks. • As a client facing service department, must dress in business casual attire at all times. Recommended attire: Shirts: All shirts with collars. This will include casual shirts and blouses, golf and polo shirts. Pants: Casual slacks and trousers. Appropriate closed toe footwear is required. • May be responsible for lifting and moving heavy items • Other duties as required.
• High School graduate or equivalent, with previous mail room experience preferred. Excellent customer service skills, punctuality and attention to detail are essential. • Must be able to utilize scale, hand trucks, pallet jack and hand tools
• Must be able to lift and or move loads of up to 75 lbs • Ability to walk, sit, stand or sit for long periods (possibly entire shift)
This is a term appointment currently expected to extend through October 31, 2014, subject to funding and departmental need.
