Posting DetailsAlliant Energy is currently recruiting for Billing Representatives to work in our Cedar Rapids, IA office.  The ideal candidate will have great customer service skills, exceptional at multi-tasking and strong decision making skills.  Candidate will have an Associate Degree AND three years of customer billing experience OR five years of customer billing experience.  Must be able to type a minimum of 40 wpm and be able to pass a computerized ten-key typing test.  The hourly wage for this position is $15.46, no relocation will be offered for this position, and casual dress attire is acceptable.  To apply for this challenging opportunity, please complete our online application.
Job Responsibilities

  • Responsible for accurately billing residential, general service and lighting customers by processing billing exceptions that fail computer generated audits. Adjust and recreate bills for customers utilizing standardized spreadsheets. 
  • Performs work on system generated billing exceptions; correctly completes standardized tasks associated with assigned billing parameters in various systems. 
  • Responsible for the explanation and resolution of customer issues in the billing area. Displays professionalism and maintains confidentiality while communicating with the customer via telephone, electronic, written and personal contact. 
  • Develops an understanding of rate tariffs for electric, natural gas, and street/area lighting billing applications. Completes associated periodic billing reports, such as lighting and summary reports. 
  • May perform maintenance tasks involving billing databases. Performs various research functions, such as copying, filing, data entry using various methods to troubleshoot and resolve bill variances and customer inquiries. 
  • Responsible for meeting and maintaining quality and quantity production standards and operational goals, working effectively and accurately within functions, policies, practices, and procedures. 
  • All other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications

  • Education and/or experience equivalent to a two year degree from an accredited college or university. 
  • A minimum of three years technical and/or professional experience, with experience in customer billing operations. 
  • Experience in utility or related industry in billing, pricing, or economic analyses applicable to the utility industry preferred. 
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills. 
  • Ability to handle confidential matters discreetly. 
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e-mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management). Demonstrated knowledge of customer information or billing systems. 
  • Demonstrated ability to type at a minimum of 40 words per minute. 
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully complete a ten-key typing test. 
  • Ability to perform accurately and effectively in a timely manner. 
  • Effective planning and organizational skills. 
  • Ability to carry out duties with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to work in a diverse work environment.
